With a duty-ratio current limiting technique, these regulators deliver peak load capacity while effectively managing power dissipation of the external pass transistor in fault conditions. The inclusion of a gated-astable timer ensures that the pass device switches off and on at a programmable duty-ratio when the load current surpasses the set threshold. This innovative approach allows for constant-current-limit programming on the UCx832 models, accommodating high initial load demands and offering short circuit protection without the need for additional heat sinking or foldback current limiting.
