The FDMF3180 by ON Semiconductor offers a next-generation solution for high-current, high frequency, and synchronous buck DC-DC converters. This device features fully integrated MOSFETs and advanced driver IC current and temperature sensors, providing optimized performance and ultra-compact design. Not only does the FDMF3180 reduce system parasitics and power MOSFET RDS(ON), but it also enables precise module-level current and thermal monitoring. Through its output signal (IMON), the device reports real-time module current, eliminating the need for inductor DCR current sense or resistor sense methods. Moreover, the FDMF3180 includes accurate thermal monitoring (TMON) with a 0.8V output at 25°C and an 8 mV / °C slope. Although the FDMF3180 is a powerful solution, ON Semiconductor advises against using it for new designs and recommends considering the pin-to-pin replacement FDMF5062 instead. By leveraging an integrated approach and advanced features, the FDMF3180 represents the future of Smart Power Stage solutions
